Rat Pest Control

Common Rat

The brown rat or common rat, is one of the best known and most common rats in the UK. This type of rat is either brown or grey, with a body up to 25 cm long. Males typically weigh 350 g and females 250 g. The common rat has now spread to all continents, except Antarctica - making it the most successful mammal on the planet after humans!

Signs you have rats

  • Rat droppings - normally about 3-5mm long
  • Rat footprints and tail marks may be left in dust
  • Holes through walls, floors or burrows in outside areas
  • Rat teeth marks on food
  • Greasy smears left by fur rubbing against walls

Rat breeding rates

A rat's lifespan is only around one year, but in that short time it can produce as many as seven rat litters, each of around 8-12 young!
